  Schindler Factory

Schindler Factory KrakowType: Monument
Location: Podgorze

Address: Lipowa 4

Description:

After the invasion of Poland, In December 1939 Oskar Schindler bought an enamel factory on ul. Lipowa 4, where he employed Jews. In September 1944, Schindler saved the lives of his Jewish workers by preparing his "list" of Jews he then took to a new factory in Sudetenland.
There is a long - term scheme to develop the Schindler facility and establish a modern art and cultural centre dedicated to the memory of Oskar Schindler and the history of the factory. At the moment in the factory visitors can see some temporary exhibitions.

I visited the Schindler factory on 6 October 2009. The information displays in the exhibition were detailed and factual, but did nothing to bring out the personality and character of Schindler and and of the plight of the Jews in his employ. A solitary cartload of pots and pans did nothing to enliven the show. You need to use all of the techniques available - video/slide-tape shows, lighting, 3D exhibits - to bring this exhibition to life. Go for it ! You've got a fantastic story to tell. It would be good to keep the front clear of parked vehicles so people can take good pictures. Your reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. Good luck

Just been to Lipowa 4 (beginning of october). No exhibitions open. Are the plans for a cultural center finally coming through?
